Warning: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here. Thar be foodporn ahead.
Let me introduce y'all to a term that basically defines my entire life: べつばら (betsubara). The betsu is from べつべつ, meaning separate, and the bara means stomach. Loosely translated, betsubara means separate stomach (for dessert...or another meal, etc).

| Went to a small cafe on Friday with Thaddeus and David after lunch at Sukiya (I had curry rice there, and it was delicious). Ordered a strawberry cake parfait, and it was absolute perfection. |
| Matcha ice cream, matcha cake, and strawberry cake parfait |
| Some type of noodle. I think it's called omatsu? Nevertheless, it was delicious. |
| Promptly after the curry rice, the dessert, and the noodles, I went home and had sushi. べつばら、べつばら. My favorites were the squid, scallop, and amai (sweet shrimp) sushi. |

| Lunch on the first day of the Noto trip! There was sukiyaki, miso soup, udon, and various pickled things.  |
| Matcha and wagashi at the best ryokan in Japan, Kagaya ryokan (there will be a post about this later) |
| Green tea |
| Seafood salad, and appetizers (boiled plum, hairy Mozoku-seaweed, turban-shell with tartar sauce, steamed whiting, egg jelly, shrimp, and fried broad bean) |
| Sashimi! It had sea bass, sea bream, tuna, shrimp, squid, and sea urchin (my first time eating sea urchin and it was amazing) |
| Tenpura! Note the huge shrimp. Why doesn't America have huge shrimp? |
| Nakajima-leaf udon |
| Japanese bouillabaisse |
| Mochi! (Green tea and red bean) |
| Some type of pudding? Or jelly? Not sure, but it was delicious. |
| Pickled cucumber, radish, and eggplant |
| Sushi rice with egg, crab, cucumber, and salmon mixed in |
| Fried squid |
| Fried fish. What kind of fish? No clue. |
| Radish salad with tomatoes and cucumber picked from my host family's garden |
| Yakitori |
Stay tuned for blog posts on the Noto trip (whose food is pictured here), an update on class, and more! Thanks for reading, and DFTBA!
